Valentin Nguyen
Valentin Nguyen created LOSS to honor her father, who passed away in 2017 in the ocean in Huntington Beach, California. As part of her grieving process, she drove to that same beach and reconciled her feelings of sadness and anger towards the body of water for taking a loved one from her. LOSS uncovers the process of enduring grief, and uses the ocean as a metaphor for forgiving and commemorating loved ones who have passed by a force of nature. It includes written pieces, paintings, illustrations, and drawings inspired by the ocean, as well as ripped and sewn-together pieces to represent her journey of mending what was once broken.
