This artwork is one of an ongoing collection of mine, this specific piece represents addiction and self-harm. I wanted to visualize addiction and the affects of it as a concept in a very literal yet grotesque and surreal way.
The art piece shows a faceless man smoking a cigarette lit from a fire enveloping on his own arm. To me, this piece represents self-destruction and addiction. I used a cigarette as an example, but the piece is more of an abstract statement on how addiction leads people to harm themselves for temporary satisfaction/pleasure. This is why the title of the artwork differs from what is literally happening in the picture. They are both examples of sacrificing one’s health for a desire. The artwork was painted digitally on photoshop.
