Who knows What Language is For?

Adrian Martinez-Tobón

“Who Knows What Language Is For?” Is a one channel video projection that employs the Dadaist poetry technique of the Decoupé, as well as elements of collage and found footage to meditate on the mystery and central importance the phenomenon of language has to the Human experience. From societal arrangements, to expressions, to technologies, language is at the core of all of it. By combining stock footage and historical documents from the public domain with random units of composed language, the work collages many forms of language into a work whose central inquiry is into the mystery of the phenomena. When asking “Who Knows What Language is For?”, there is no optimal answer. There are only contemplations on the nature of language and its role in the tapestry that is Humanity.
