WHAT DOES HOME MEAN TO YOU?

Moving from Colorado to California in the midst of the pandemic forced me to examine what home really meant to me. Feeling lost and deprived of a place to call home, I questioned a lot about what it mean to really feel at home and the imperfections that exist within a household. With the sudden and unforgiving separation from my prior community and a place I once called home, I designed this piece to provide a space for others to consider what homes means to them.

With my piece, I hope to help others realize their power to define home as whatever they wish. In correlation with the prompt, I want the viewer to be able to consider what contexts and conditions need to exist in order for the viewer to state “I am home.” Additionally, I hope the piece empowers viewers to walk away with the idea that “I am the decider of what and where home is.”

Special thanks to my motion professor Jamie Wolfe for pushing me to try illustration for the first time and encouraging me to explore design outside of my comfort zone.
